Manchester United have firmly dismissed speculation linking Bruno Fernandes with a summer move to Real Madrid, with manager Ruben Amorim declaring the Portuguese midfielder “not for sale” during Monday’s press briefing.
The 29-year-old captain remains central to United’s rebuild despite their disappointing Premier League campaign.
Fernandes’ remarkable productivity – 79 goals and 66 assists in 229 appearances since his €55m arrival from Sporting CP – has attracted Europe’s elite. Recent reports suggested Madrid were preparing a €100m bid to replace the aging Luka Modrić. However, Amorim emphasized Fernandes’ importance to United’s project: “Between goals and assists, he delivers 30+ contributions yearly. That consistency is irreplaceable.”
The manager’s stance aligns with United’s contractual leverage – Fernandes’ deal runs until 2026 with an option year.
Amorim hinted at summer reinforcements to convince Fernandes of United’s ambition, with the club targeting defensive upgrades and a striker. While Madrid’s interest is genuine, United’s firm stance and Fernandes’ leadership role make a transfer improbable unless the player forces an exit – something sources close to the midfielder currently deny.
As United prepare for Saturday’s clash with Brentford, Fernandes’ focus remains on securing European qualification, with his commitment likely to be tested again when the transfer window opens.
