The presence of “Team Melli” has been clouded by geopolitical uncertainty following the eruption of conflict in the Middle East this February, sparked by localized strikes involving the United States and Israel.

Despite the regional tension, FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently confirmed at the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver that Iran will play its first three matches as scheduled on American soil.

Infantino emphasized that football must serve as a bridge to unite a divided world, rejecting calls for exclusion and insisting that the tournament’s 48-team expansion is a platform for global peace.

However, FFIRI President Mehdi Taj has stated that participation remains contingent on receiving “concrete guarantees” regarding the treatment of state symbols and the safety of the Iranian delegation while in the U.S.

The Iranian squad, which is slated to be based in Tucson, Arizona, faces a challenging Group G lineup against New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.

The campaign is set to kick off on June 15 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where the world will watch to see if sports can successfully transcend the current diplomatic crisis.

U.S. officials have largely echoed the sentiment of “let them play,” prioritizing the integrity of the sporting event as the 11th June kickoff in North America rapidly approaches.
