Ancelotti will be Brazil coach for June matches

The Brazil Football Federation (CBF) is increasingly confident that Carlo Ancelotti will become the new head coach of the national team in time for June’s World Cup qualifiers, despite no official agreement being finalized.

Sources close to the negotiations have revealed that the 65-year-old Italian has given the CBF permission to begin preparations for his arrival, with expectations that he could be in Rio de Janeiro as early as May 26th—just two days after Real Madrid’s final LaLiga fixture of the season.

The potential appointment comes at a critical juncture for both parties. Brazil has been without a permanent manager since March following Dorival Junior’s dismissal after a disappointing loss to rivals Argentina. The five-time World Cup champions currently sit fourth in the CONMEBOL qualifying table and face crucial matches against Ecuador and Paraguay in early June.

For Ancelotti, the move would mark the end of his second spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, where his tenure has delivered remarkable success including three Champions League titles and two LaLiga championships. However, the current season has fallen short of Madrid’s lofty expectations, with the team eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal and defeated by Barcelona in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final.

When questioned about his future following the Copa loss, Ancelotti remained noncommittal, stating: “Whether I continue [at Madrid] is an issue for the coming weeks, not for today.”

Should Ancelotti depart, Real Madrid would need to appoint a new manager or interim coach before this summer’s Club World Cup. The timing creates a complex situation for both the Spanish giants and the Brazilian federation, with Ancelotti reportedly planning discussions with Madrid president Florentino Perez to negotiate an early release from his contract, which officially runs until 2026.

Brazil’s pursuit of Ancelotti represents their ambition to return to football’s elite after recent disappointments in major tournaments, bringing in one of the sport’s most decorated tacticians to lead their talented squad.
