Ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup have skyrocketed on FIFA’s official resale platform, with seats for marquee fixtures listed at several times their original face value. Despite President Gianni Infantino’s earlier warnings regarding exorbitant markups, the secondary market is currently seeing unprecedented inflation as fans scramble for access.

The opening clash between Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium has seen “category three” seats listed for as much as $5,324, a staggering jump from the $895 starting price. However, the most eye-watering figures are reserved for the showpiece final in New Jersey, where one seat is currently advertised for a monumental $143,750.
Supporters’ groups have been quick to condemn the trend, arguing that genuine fans are being priced out by those purchasing tickets solely for profit. Guillaume Aupretre, spokesperson for the “Irresistibles Français,” lamented that passionate followers are being left with “outrageous offers” while speculators reap the rewards.
Nevertheless, the global clamor for the tournament remains undiminished, with FIFA reporting over 500 million ticket requests to date. While rare bargains exist—such as Jordan versus Austria tickets dipping below face value—the general trend points toward the most expensive World Cup in history for the average traveling fan.
