Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has fueled intense speculation regarding internal club support after publicly hitting out at unnamed parties following Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win against Everton. The Italian tactician staunchly refused to clarify his comments in Monday’s press conference, ahead of the League Cup quarter-final at Cardiff City.

Maresca became visibly impatient when repeatedly pressed by the media to explain his earlier remarks, which have led to speculation that he was aiming criticism at Chelsea’s owners or sporting directors.
He stood by his initial statement, offering no further context but reaffirming his commitment to the job:
“I respect your (the media’s) opinion and I respect people’s opinion. But again, I don’t have anything to add and my focus is just on tomorrow’s game where we can achieve a third semi-final in 18 months since I joined the club.”
The former Leicester boss was clear to reiterate that his frustration was not directed at the supporters, stating, “I said after the game that I love Chelsea supporters. They deserve the best.” When directly questioned about his dedication, Maresca affirmed, “Absolutely, yes.”
Maresca, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in July 2024, is currently enjoying a strong spell, with Chelsea sitting fourth in the Premier League and still in contention for automatic Champions League qualification.
Despite the obvious pressures, the coach claimed he was enjoying the season, though he acknowledged that success had raised the bar: “When you are Chelsea manager, you understand that the expectations are higher, especially probably this season they are higher, raised a little bit compared to last season, probably because of the Club World Cup, Conference League, we finished fourth in the Premier League.” His immediate focus remains on securing a semi-final berth against third-tier opposition.
