Foden braced for Bodo battle of broken hand

Manchester City forward Phil Foden is set to play through the pain of a broken hand against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday as Pep Guardiola looks to erase the bitter taste of Saturday’s derby defeat. Foden was forced off at half-time against Manchester United after landing awkwardly, but he will utilize a protective cast to feature in the Champions League tie.

“He has, a little bit, broken his bones but he has protection and he is fine for tomorrow,” Guardiola confirmed to reporters on Monday. The manager also dismissed suggestions that Erling Haaland might be rested in his homeland, despite the striker going seven matches without a goal from open play.

The clash comes at a critical juncture for City, whose winless Premier League run has allowed Arsenal to open a seven-point lead. Guardiola has postponed any internal inquest into the Old Trafford loss, choosing instead to focus on securing an automatic place in the Champions League last 16.

City took the unusual step of training at the 8,500-capacity Aspmyra Stadion to adjust to the sub-zero temperatures and artificial surface. Guardiola emphasized the need for quick adaptation, noting that “life is never a red carpet” and success requires navigating uncomfortable situations.

While the pressure is mounting domestically, the City boss appeared in a relaxed mood when discussing his stay in the Arctic Circle. He expressed hope of seeing the Northern Lights from his hotel room, remarking on his desire to appreciate the “beauty of the universe” amidst his professional duties.
