Melanie Kamayou, wife of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, was the victim of a robbery in Alderley Edge, a village south of Manchester. The incident occurred on March 29 in the parking lot of an Italian restaurant, where a thief stole her £62,000 Hermes Birkin handbag and Rolex watch.
Authorities have charged 25-year-old Liam Ross from Bradford in connection with the theft. Ross, who also faces charges for cannabis supply, appeared before Chester Magistrates Court and is scheduled for a Crown Court appearance next month.
Kamayou, who married Onana in 2023, is known for her work as a businesswoman and philanthropist. She serves as co-chair of the Andre Onana Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing free medical care to underprivileged communities across Africa.
Manchester United faces a busy schedule ahead, with a crucial home match against rivals Manchester City on Sunday. The Red Devils previously defeated City 2-1 in their December meeting.
United is also preparing for their Europa League quarter-final against Lyon, with the first leg scheduled for Thursday night in France.
