Nottingham Forest reach FA Cup Semi-Final spot as Matz Sels shines in penalty shootout.
Forest’s triumph sends them into the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1991, when they were under the legendary management of Brian Clough.
Goalkeeper Matz Sels was the star of the night as Nottingham Forest advanced to their first FA Cup semi-final in 34 years, defeating Brighton 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium.
In a match that lacked flair and excitement, neither side could break the deadlock over 120 minutes. Brighton looked the more likely team to snatch a winner, especially during extra time, but Sels produced a stunning save to deny a bullet header from Diego Gomez.
Brighton’s hopes were briefly raised when Joao Pedro bundled in a cross from Pervis Estupinan in the dying moments, but the goal was ruled out for offside, sending the match into penalties.
Sels stepped up again during the shootout, saving penalties from both Jack Hinshelwood and Gomez. Forest captain Ryan Yates then sealed the victory, confidently slotting the decisive penalty to secure the club’s first FA Cup semi-final appearance since 1991.
Forest will discover their opponents when the draw takes place on Sunday.
